A HEART OF THANKSGIVING BRINGS THANKFUL LIVING

There’s always unrest in the world. That is a constant. Perhaps the unrest seems a bit closer than usual. That unrest need not be a constant in us.

We who claim Jesus Christ as our Savior and King are called to be salt and light (Matthew 5). Salt is a preservative. Light allows us to see.

Each of us is responsible for the quality of our salt and light. Yes, this really is related – if not integral – to Thanksgiving.

The light we emit is directly related to what we allow to enter our hearts and minds. Philippians 6:6-8 admonishes us to consider things true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of a good report. We tend to think about what we see. The more we see something, the more likely we are to consider it. That consideration will manifest itself in our lives.

If our hearts feel burdened after interaction with acquaintances or viewing media (traditional mass or social), we should talk with the Lord and leave all concerns at his feet. We may also need to evaluate the benefits of future interaction with the sources of weight and/or anxiety we encounter.

In the broader perspective, we have to recognize that apart from prayer, we have limited influence (Psalms 131:1). We are responsible for shining our lights where we find ourselves. Not one of us is called to light the whole planet.

Breath out. Relax. Live. Repeat as necessary.

Some people medicate through life’s challenges by utilizing “retail therapy.” The mention of “Black Friday” causes their eyes to roll back in their head, their toes to curl, and their hands to shake. There is no judgement here but perhaps an alternate paradigm;

Things break, wear out , and go out of style. Giving exorbitant gifts often warrants overtime. Overtime results in less time for those we claim to love. Hopefully, we give a lot more memories than things!

The love of God is an eternal constant. He is love!

We are redeemed from sin. We are eternally secure. We are loved! For what more is there to be thankful? Let’s live accordingly!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
